While visiting 4 cities in 3 countries!
1/4 Kicking off the trip by visiting Wuhan, China to attend the 13th Symposium on Ca2+ signaling in China (SCSC) organized by Haoxing Xu and Bi Zhang. Met Dr. Erwin Nehr, the inventor of patch clamp and mentor of my postdoc mentor!
Chung lab presented foods from 5 countries (Chille, China, Germany, Korea, and USA) representing where we are from and it was a blast! “Your lab raised Dept. Happy Hour to another level!” someone told us. Certainly, the air-filled smell of pan-fried Korean pancake cooked on spot by Jong-Nam contributed to the scene quite a lot!
Time flies! With a month before her departure, she nicely wrapped her study at Chung lab by providing a wonderful talk at Dept RIP talk.

Sofia has settled well into the lab and is already contributing to make big discovery! She is a biophysical dissector of CatSper channel :)
Cameron did a kick off of his data club! Nice introduction and updates on his project(s). Look forward to exciting progress to be made!

We had our 2nd Department Retreat of the year! Gillian and Caro presented posters - good job! Gillian was also very close to win the quiz at the end of all the talks (remained as one of the last three)!
Another Chung lab baby boy has arrived! Ethan Wang was born on November 14, 2023, weighing 5 lb 13 ounce! Both Ethan and Xiaofang are doing well. Congratulations, Xiaofang and Xinbo! Welcome, Ethan!
Beautiful weather to sit outside to celebrate Gillian’s birthday together! Happy Birthday, Gillian!
Xiaofang and Xinbo will be brand new parents in about a month! A surprise visit by Sarah made Xiaofang even happier! Look forward to meeting Xiaofang’s baby boy!
Caro’s postdoctoral advisor, Dr. Gunther Wennemuth, visited us in New Haven! Had a nice lunch out to catch things up!
